Marble Mosaic Mural of Arabic Handwriting Quran

Marble Mosaic Mural of Arabic Handwriting Quran

We received this special order from a famous construction company in Saudi Arabia to create a 10-meter long and 8-meter wide hand cutting marble mosaic mural for the local Quran Museum. The mural will feature an intricate Islamic design made with mosaic tiles, a unique piece blending tradition and artistry.

Handmade mosaic murals can be classified based on the materials used, each offering distinct characteristics:

  1. Glass Mosaic:

Known for its vibrant and rich colors, glass mosaics offer an extensive palette, making it easier to create harmonious designs. The material is durable and stable, with excellent heat, cold, weather, and acid/alkali resistance. It's also easy to maintain, as it doesn’t accumulate dust. The cost is reasonable considering the benefits.

    2.Natural Stone Mosaic:

  •  This material retains the authentic texture of natural stone.
  • Offers a wide variety of pattern combinations.
  • It’s highly durable and resistant to wear.
  • Long-lasting and will never fade.
  • Low radiation, making it eco-friendly and safe.
  • Surface finishes include polished, matte, or natural cuts, depending on the desired effect.

    3.Ceramic Mosaic:

Ceramic mosaics are simpler in color compared to glass or stone. Due to market demand, they are usually available in polished finishes, adding a sleek look to the design.

    4.Shell Mosaic:

Made from natural shells, this material has a limited color range. Additionally, the shells themselves impose some constraints during the cutting process, making them slightly more challenging to work with.

    5.Metal Mosaic:

As its name suggests, metal mosaics consist of small metal pieces crafted into various designs. This material boasts impressive hardness, strength, and shine retention. Metal mosaics tend to have a more modern, industrial look, often creating a futuristic aesthetic ideal for contemporary or post-modern interiors.

Initially, the client was uncertain about which material would yield the best result for the mural. Given the vibrant colors and the flowing nature of the Arabic calligraphy in the design, we decided to create samples using glass, stone, and ceramic to compare.

Handmade Mosaic Cutting Techniques:

There are different techniques for creating these mosaics, including close-fit, wide-fit, and fragment cutting.

At first, the client wanted a wide-fit approach to emphasize a more natural feel, so we produced a sample accordingly. However, we soon discovered that this technique compromised the clarity of the Arabic calligraphy. To preserve the fluid beauty of the calligraphy, we shifted to a close-fit method combined with fragment cutting, which achieved a more precise and aesthetically pleasing result.

Client is very happy with our works.
